To Facebook, or Not To Facebook: That is The Question

Facebook has become the newest form of communication. We use it to keep up with our families, friends, and kids. It's a great way to see what is going on in the lives of others and to share what is happening in our life, but could this new communication tool hinder you from obtaining employment opportunities? I know you've heard the hype that employers will eliminate you as a candidate if they view your Facebook profile, and you have some wild and crazy photos of you and your friends. This is not necessarily true, although employers view your public Facebook photos, they are just looking to see how social one is or how extroverted they are. This helps them determine if you are a good fit for the company. What mainly attracts their interest is what your profile says about job-related skills. It is a good idea to have your work, education, and the “details about you” section completed, this will leave the employer with a favorable impression. Now some other things that will cause an employer to reject your resume is a post about engaging in illegal drug activities, sexual activities, and weaponry. Some that I found to be a little obsessive were disqualifying candidates for using bad grammar and for having certain political views. To me this is going overboard, I know several educated persons who use short-hand text on Facebook. No one should be discriminated against because of their individual political views. My advice to you would be to utilize the excellent features of Facebook and keep your page and photos PRIVATE.
